Local meat dishes

When you visit Basilicata, you cannot stop with your culinary experiences at pasta and really good sauces; you have to try some other typical local foods as the panella bread with potato or the the pancotto soup. Regarding meat, the people of the region eat lamb prepared as meat loaf, lamb stew or baked lamb head. Another typical food in Basilicata is the lucanica, which is a type of sausage with pork.

Vegetables in Basilicata

A real symbol of cuisine in Basilicata is the pepperonchino or the diocolicchio, as the people of the region call it, which is basicly a hot pepper and is widely used to different delicious sauces. Some basic dishes that we recommend you include the lampaggioni salad, the cialledda, a delicious vegetable dish with atichokes, beans and potatoes, the ciambotta, that also included potatoes, but also eggplant and pepper, all these in tomato sauce.

If you want to eat something really Italian, you must try the piatto d’erbe alla lucana that has many delicious and healthy cooked vegetables, like eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic and basil and, of course all these have to be completed with olive oil.
